Step 2. Specifications

The Ann Arbor News requires photo images to be at least a resolution of 200 dpi. Color scans must be saved using the CMYK mode. Files may be saved as JPEG, EPS or TIFF formats. Line screen should be set at 120 lpi to run in all Ann Arbor News publications. For more information on setting preferences, scanning photos or preparing electronic files, please download our Acrobat PDF file, Electronic Advertising Requirements

Step 3. File Formats

The Ann Arbor News prefers to receive ads in the Adobe Acrobat file format (PDF). PDF files will work with the Macintosh, Windows or unix operating systems. PDF files created with the The Ann Arbor News specifications are small in size and there is no need to send fonts or images, which makes emailing or storing them very convenient. If you need help making a PDF file please download our Acrobat PDF file, How To Make a PDF. To download Acrobat software from the Adobe site go to: www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/.

Step 4. File Compression

If your files are in PDF format, you can start uploading (sending) your files (Step 5). Otherwise, you will need a compression utility that can create zip files for PC's, or StuffIt files for Mac's. To create zip files, PKzip and WinZip can be used, or any utility that can create zip archives. Stuffit Deluxe creates StuffIt files (and many other compression formats, including zip) for the Mac and Windows.

Note: Zip files should end in a .zip extension, and StuffIt files should end in a .sit extension.

Step 5. File Naming Convention
